食品添加物として用いられている物質が、放射性核種の体内動態に与える影響を明らかにして、甲状腺への吸収を阻害・促進させる最適条件を示すことが研究の目的である。阻害作用があれば、医療従事者や介護者あるいは原子力災害時の近隣住民などが、呼吸によって取り込む放射性核種による被ばくを飲食物の摂取で低減させることができ、安全確保につながる。促進作用があれば、甲状腺疾患の患者に投与する放射性核種の量が減るため安全性が高くなる。
