Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This study aims to clarify the essential conditions and processes for the formation of autonomous and sustainable "lesson study communities" that contribute to inquiry-based learning in junior high school mathematics. Focusing on lesson study as a means to promote the professional growth of teachers in implementing inquiry-based learning in mathematics, the research involved the establishment of four sectors to explore the requirements for forming such communities. Approximately 100 research collaborators, including junior high school mathematics teachers and board of education supervisors, engaged in lesson study, and the processes were analyzed. The results revealed that, through repeated practice and reflection based on a shared framework of inquiry-based learning, a group of teachers oriented toward such learning evolved, leading to the formation of a lesson study community.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
