Outline of Research at the Start

中性子星の物理はその性質から非常に学際的な物理学の分野である。星であるため天体物理学の研究対象であるが、とてつもない高密度の物質(高密度の核物質、クォーク物質)が関与することからも、原子核物理や素粒子物理が重要となる。そして、それらの高密度物質が超流動や超伝導性を示すことから、物性物理学が必要不可欠となってくる。ところが、物性物理学の対象として調べることは、これまで殆どなされてこなかった。本研究課題では、物性物理学の手法や知見をいかしつつ、中性子星の難問(1)パルサー・グリッチの発生機構、(2)マグネターなどの強磁場の起源、(3)超重量中性子星を支える硬さの起源を解決することを目標としている。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

中性子星は、非常に密度が高く、高速で回転する小さな天体である。中性子星の発見以降謎であった現象の一つとして、中性子星の自転が突然急激に加速するという現象(パルサーグリッチ)がある。中性子星の内部の量子流体が導く巨大な量子渦ネットワークのもつ統計性を世界で初めて発見した。中性子星の二つの異なった種類の量子流体による量子渦が巨大なネットワークを形成することを見出し、そのネットワークが形成される規模を数値シミュレーション計算で調べることによって、モデルの詳細によらずに、天文学で観測されているグリッチの統計性を説明することに成功した。
量子色力学(QCD)と磁性体や液晶という全く異なった系が似たような基底状態をもっていることが、それぞれの分野で知られていたが、最近、単なる類似性というだけでなく共通した物理が背景にあることが分かってきた。カイラル磁性体やカイラル液晶においては、ジャロチンスキー守谷項のおかげでソリトン格子が基底状態になるが、この項は背景ゲージ場として理解できることが最近わかり、QCDなどの場の理論と共通した理解が得られるようになってきた。このおかげで、トポロジカル・ソリトンと反ソリトンに差異が現れ(カイラリティー)、最終的には一方のエネルギーが負になるために基底状態として現れる。QCDにおいてはドメイン壁スキルミオン相という新しい相があることを発見した。磁性体においても同様のドメイン壁スキルミオンを発見した。背景ゲージ場におけるトポロジカル・ソリトンが、素粒子物理、原子核物理、物性物理でどのように現れるか俯瞰的に理解できるようになってきた。
アイソスピン化学ポテンシャルがある場合、QCDの新しい相として、渦のエネルギーが負となり渦が自発的に生成される相(バリオン渦相)があることを発見した。

Reason

2022年度、2023年度において、代表者は出版論文を24本執筆した。さらにプレプリントも数編執筆している。その中でも特筆すべきは、パルサーグリッチの起源を解明したことと、QCDの新しい相を発見したことである。このように当初の計画に比べて、はるかに進んでいる。
パルサーグリッチの起源については、予定に入れていたことではあるが、そもそもがとても大きな目標であったので、それが一年目で達成できてしまったことは物凄い成果である。
QCDの新しい相に関しては、予定していなかった進展で、しかも注目を浴びている。特に、有限密度のQCDで磁場または回転のある場合、ドメイン壁スキルミオン相という新しい相が現れることを発見した。さらに、アイソスピン化学ポテンシャルのある場合は、バリオン渦相という新しい相が現れることも発見した。これらは、長いQCDの研究の中でも完全に新しい発見である。
以上のことから当初の計画以上に進展していることが言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

量子色力学(QCD)と磁性体や液晶などの物性系が似たような基底状態をもっていることが知られていたが、単なる類似程度に思われていた。QCDにおいては、対称性や量子異常(アノマリー)を用いた低エネルギー有効理論を用いて、SonとStephanovらが、高密度・高磁場では、磁場方向に揃った中性パイオンのカイラル・ソリトン格子が基底状態であることが示して以降、高磁場、高速回転の基底状態の理解が進んできた。さらに最近は、我々が、ソリトン上にスキルミオンが励起される状態が基底状態になりうるを示した。同様のことは高速回転している系でも起こる。次にやるべき重要なことは、スキルミオン間の相互作用を決定して、スキルミオン格子などの基底状態を決定することである。
また、アイソスピン化学ポテンシャルを入れると、磁場のもとではバリオン渦糸が生成されることを示した。さらに、化学ポテンシャルも同時に入れ大きくすると、磁場なしでも渦が基底状態で現る。今後調べるべき重要なことは、渦糸の相互作用を決定し、アブリコソフ格子などの基底状態を求めることである。また、これまではパイオンの質量をゼロとするカイラル極限を考えていたが、パイオンの効果を取り入れる。
これらQCDと物性系に共通する物理は、トポロジカル・ソリトンの格子が基底状態になることであるが、これら異なる系は、統一的に背景ゲージ場として理解できることがわかってきた。この理解を今後推し進める。
さらにこれまであまり考えていなかったこととして、初期宇宙などの系でも磁場が強かったことがわかっているので、初期宇宙の磁場下でのソリトン基底状態の可能性もさぐる。
これらとは別に、3P2超流動の研究も引き続き行う。3P2超流動と1S0超流動の境界でどのように渦がつながっているかという問題(ブージャムと呼ばれる構造)を調べる。また、パルサーグリッチの機構も詳しく調べる。
