Outline of Research at the Start

水熱変成作用を受けた炭素質コンドライトに含まれる炭酸塩鉱物に対してMn-Cr年代測定を行い、変成作用の年代からその熱源を制約する。独立して、含まれている有機物の分析から、最高到達温度を推定し、温度-時間の関係を理解する。異なる隕石に対して年代測定を行い、そのデータから隕石母天体の熱進化モデルを構築する。年代測定に用いた試料のCr, Ti安定同位体比の分析を行い、同じ母天体を共有しているかを確認する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we analyzed carbonaceous chondrites and samples from the asteroid Ryugu to elucidate the heat source and evolution of their parent bodies. Observations using an electron microscope confirmed evidence for thermal metamorphism after aqueous alteration in several samples. We also found that hydrothermal reactions on the meteorite parent body caused pyrolysis of insoluble organic matter, producing a greater variety of soluble organic matter than previously thought. Chromium-isotope analysis suggested a relationship between meteorites that underwent aqueous alteration and those that underwent thermal metamorphism. Finally, we developed a new ion imaging technique using NanoSIMS to measure the formation ages of dolomite in Ryugu samples, and revealed that the heat source of aqueous alteration was likely 26Al.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、水や有機物を豊富に含む小惑星の形成と進化の解明に取り組んだ。このような小惑星は、太陽系形成の初期段階で、地球や他の惑星に揮発性物質を供給した可能性が示唆されている。その科学的重要性から、JAXAや海外の研究機関によって小惑星探査計画が計画・実行されてきた。本研究は、小惑星の形成・進化過程における物質の変遷やタイムスケール、それを駆動した要因などを明らかにした。本研究の結果は、今後の小惑星探査計画の立案や得られるデータの解釈に貢献するものであり、大きな学術的意義を有している。
