Outline of Research at the Start

熱帯域成層圏に存在する赤道準2年振動(QBO)は広範囲の力学・化学過程に影響を及ぼし、気象予報精度とも関連する、極めて重要な現象の1つである。現在、世界のほぼ全ての気候モデルで重力波パラメタリゼーションを組み込むことでQBOを再現している。世界中のモデルを集めて行われた最新のQBO温暖化実験では、将来QBO変化についてモデル間で大きなバラつきが見られた。国際的な共同研究プロジェクトを主導し、エルニーニョ・南方振動(ENSO)によるQBO変調を解析することで、ENSOと連動する同パラメタリゼーションを検証し、気候モデルの不確実性低減に資する知見を得る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

赤道準2年振動(QBO)気候モデル国際比較プロジェクト(QBOi)のco-leadsとして、国際共同研究を主導した。その中で現在進めているENSO-QBO実験を主責任者として取り纏め、3つの研究グループに分けて解析を続けて初期結果が出てきた。エルニーニョ実験とラニーニャ実験を比較すると、どの気候モデルもエルニーニョ実験の方がQBO周期が短く、観測と整合的である。しかし周期の変調にはモデル間で大きなばらつきがあり、その原因を運動量収支解析により調べている。
典型的なQBO東西風サイクルが観測された1980年7月から1983年6月の36か月間を対象に、大気大循環モデルを全球再解析データを用いて初期値化したのち、月初から月末まで1か月間のTranspose-AMIP実験を毎月実施することにより、様々なQBO位相におけるQBO東西風の誤差成長の様子を調べた。使用した大気大循環モデルの弱点として、QBO東風シアー層の下降時の下降速度を過小評価する傾向が見られた。運動量収支の解析結果とともに、関連する国際会議で発表した。
本年度は、4種の再解析データから計算した変形オイラー平均(TEM)方程式系の全項と残差項およびその全変数について、それらの気候値の比較・検証をおこなった論文を執筆し、Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics誌に投稿した。また、国際的な再解析データ比較検証活動S-RIP Phase 2の計画立案に関わりつつ、国際会議および国内学会にてこれに関連する招待講演をおこなった。また、基準高層観測網(GRUAN)の会議に出席し、ラジオゾンデ観測がQBOの状態監視の鍵であることについて議論した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

交付申請書に記載した手順で、引き続き研究を進めていく。特に気候モデルの本格的な実験を開始し、データ解析を進めていく。
