Outline of Research at the Start

磁性体の準粒子であるスキルミオンは、そのサイズが小さいこと、従来のスピンデバイスに比べて低電流で高速に駆動できることから、高データ密度・高速・低消費電力のポテンシャルを持つ。しかしながら、このメリットを同時に実現する事が難く、トリレンマの関係がある。本研究では、重金属と磁性体の界面に新たな層を挿入した二重ヘテロ界面を持つ積層体で、微小サイズを保ちながらも安定したスキルミオンの生成と、低電力で高速な転送を並立するための物性研究を行う。新たな界面を導入することで準粒子スキルミオンの生成メカニズムを拡張した上で、スピンに係る物性値の寄与を定量化し、学理を構築する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

磁性体の準粒子であるスキルミオンは、そのサイズが小さいこと、従来のスピンデバイスに比べて低電流で高速に駆動できることから、高データ密度・高速・低消費電力のポテンシャルを持つ。しかしながら、このメリットを同時に実現する事が難しく、トリレンマの関係がある。本研究では、重金属と磁性体の界面に新たな層を挿入した二重ヘテロ界面を持つ積層体で、微小サイズを保ちながらも安定したスキルミオンの生成と、低電力で高速な転送を並立するための物性研究を行う。新たな界面を導入することで準粒子スキルミオンの生成メカニズムを拡張した上で、スピンに係る物性値の寄与を定量化し、学理を構築する。
本年度は、LLG方程式を解くシミュレーションにより、昨年度決定した材料研究の方針について精度を増した。具体的には、スキルミオンが安定に生成する条件であるジャロシンスキ守屋相互作用の範囲と、転送速度を上げるための有効パラメータの同定である。本年度は、計算条件にランダムな粒径を取り入れることにより、現実的な条件範囲でのスキルミオン生成条件を見積もることができた。
転送におけるトリレンマを破るため、スピン軌道トルクを増加するに当たり、現実的なパラメータを用いて実現可能性を見積もった。その結果、これまでに実績のあるスピン軌道トルクによって、小サイズ・高速・低電流量を並立できる条件があることを実証した。その上で、スピン軌道トルクを向上するための実験を行い、数倍の増加を示す構造・材料を見出した。

Reason

磁性層と重金属の界面に極薄膜を挿入することで、シミュレーションで予測した通りのスピン軌道トルク増加を実証することができた。具体的には、ジャロシンスキ守屋相互作用は空間非対称性のある時に得られるため、Coの上下が非対称であるCo/ Ni/ Pt積層膜を基本とした。昨年度のうちに、ガドリニウム(Gd)を挿入すると軌道トルクが増えない上、ジャロシンスキ守屋相互作用が低下してしまうことが分かっており、挿入層の選択に際し、これまでにスピンゼーベック効果やスピンホール磁気抵抗効果で見出した挿入層を参照するのは良くない事がわかっていた。そこで本年度は、参照例がY3Fe5O12(YIG)という酸化物磁性体の場合に効果を示したものであるのに対し、磁気準粒子の実験では磁性層がCoなどであり、挿入層の選択を一から見直した。一例として、軽元素を挿入したところ、スピン軌道トルクが増加することがわかった。この傾向は、好適な挿入材料を絞るために有用である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

昨年度得られたスピン軌道トルクの挿入層材料依存性は、一握りの材料で得られた傾向であるが、重要な手がかりである。これを一般化し、系統的に理解するため、以下の指針で挿入層の材料選択を検討し、統一見解を得る。
また、スピン軌道トルクだけでなく、実際のスキルミオンの電流転送を観測し、本アプローチの妥当性を実証する。
