Outline of Research at the Start

磁性体の準粒子であるスキルミオンは、そのサイズが小さいこと、従来のスピンデバイスに比べて低電流で高速に駆動できることから、高データ密度・高速・低消費電力のポテンシャルを持つ。しかしながら、このメリットを同時に実現する事が難く、トリレンマの関係がある。本研究では、重金属と磁性体の界面に新たな層を挿入した二重ヘテロ界面を持つ積層体で、微小サイズを保ちながらも安定したスキルミオンの生成と、低電力で高速な転送を並立するための物性研究を行う。新たな界面を導入することで準粒子スキルミオンの生成メカニズムを拡張した上で、スピンに係る物性値の寄与を定量化し、学理を構築する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Quasi-particles called magnetic skyrmions have the potential to be information carriers with high data density, high speed, and low power consumption, but it is difficult to realize these simultaneously. In order to achieve three advantages, a stack with a double hetero interface was created by inserting rare earth elements Gd and Tb at a thickness of less than 1 nanometer at the interface between the heavy metal and the magnetic material, achieving a microscopic size and high transfer efficiency.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

情報社会ではデータに係るエネルギーが指数関数的に増加しており、情報端末の低消費電力化が喫緊の課題である。磁気スキルミオン、高データ密度・高速・低消費電力のポテンシャルを持つため、並立するために界面にごく薄い層を挿入した。高密度に必要なナノサイズと、低電力で高速転送できる事を示す転送効率の増加を実験で確認することが出来た。
