Outline of Research at the Start

体心立方(BCC)構造を持つ金属は、他の結晶構造にはない特異な変形挙動を示す。本研究では、電子構造と力学特性を繋ぐ新しい手法を開発し、BCC合金系の未知の変形挙動の起源を解明することを目的とする。BCC合金のらせん転位は、電子構造の変化に敏感で、力学特性に強く影響するという予測を立て、転位構造を電子構造に基づく特性として記述する。そして、有限温度の転位の熱活性化過程を捉える方法を開発する。BCC合金の元素設計の鍵を握る第IV族元素について、βチタンを対象とした実験と連携し、BCC合金系の未知の変形挙動の起源を包括的に解明するとともに、優れた力学機能設計に発展させる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

BCC合金における第IV族元素の効果について、耐火ハイエントロピー合金(RHEA)を対象として検討を行った。RHEAの多くは体心立方結晶(BCC)をもつため面心立方構造(FCC)のHEAよりも脆く、著しく低いクリープ強度を示す。これらの欠点を克服し、RHEAを実用的な構造材料に発展させるためには、強度と延性を制御する要因の基礎的な理解を深める必要がある。本研究では、TiZrHfNbTaとVNbMoTaWという2つのモデルRHEAの検討を行い第IV族元素の効果を検討した。
実験において、TiZrHfNbTaは極低温まで塑性圧縮可能であるのに対し、VNbMoTaWは室温以下では圧縮不可能であることが知られている。本研究の計算により、第IV族元素を60at%含むTiZrHfNbTaと第V族と第VI族元素のみで構成されるVNbMoTaWでは、弾性特性、局所格子ひずみ、転位芯構造とエネルギーが大きく異なることがわかった。とりわけ、TiZrHfNbTaでは他のBCC金属やBCC合金にない著しく低いせん断弾性係数、大きな格子ひずみを持つことがわかった。TiZrHfNbTaが低いせん断弾性係数にもかかわらず高い強度をもつのは、Burgersベクトルの6%以上にも相当する大きな格子ひずみによると示唆された。また、TiZrHfNbTaでは、弾性係数で規格化した転位芯のエネルギーが著しく低く、低温でも転位の活動に寄与し、その結果高い延性を生じることが明らかになった。さらに、2つのRHEAで異なる滑り線が観察されるが、仮想結晶近似に基づく転位芯の第一原理計算によって、第IV族元素の濃度に起因していることがわかった。

Reason

第一原理計算に基づく転位芯の構造解析について、合金系への応用を当初計画どおりに完了することができ、また、弾性問題の解を用いることで、合金の違いによる転位芯のエネルギーを比較することを可能とすることができた。当初計画に比べて、早期に第一原理計算に基づく転位構造評価に必要なツールの開発が全て完了したため、当初の計画以上に進展していると評価した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

第一原理計算に加えてすでに開発行ったニューラルネットワークポテンシャルを用いた転位芯の分子動力学計算を予定している。これまでに例のない破壊基準の構築も検討を行う予定である。また、βチタンについても、実験と計算からの変形と破壊の支配因子となる特性評価を検討する。
