Outline of Research at the Start

単層カーボンナノチューブ(SWCNT)はグラフェンを円筒状に丸めた直径1 nm程度の炭素のみからなるチューブ状ナノ材料である。半導体性のSWCNTは近赤外発光を示すことが知られているが、化学修飾を欠陥ドープに利用した新たな技術の開発によってその発光特性を大幅に向上できることが近年明らかになってきた。
本研究では、修飾分子の設計をもとに分子スケールでの欠陥ドープ構造制御を行い、多様な近赤外発光特性を示す新たなナノ材料を開発する。本材料が示す近赤外発光が1000 nm以上の領域に現れる特性を利用することで、バイオ/医療技術や量子通信技術のための新材料開発や関連する新規産業創出への貢献が期待される。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度までに局所化学修飾単層カーボンナノチューブ(lf-SWCNT)を用いてタンパク質を対象とした近赤外光バイオセンサを開発することに成功した。この成果を受け、本年度はlf-SWCNTの近赤外発光を示す修飾サイトにおいて、観測された特異なセンシング機能の発現メカニズムを調査するための実験を行った。具体的には、種々の分子を修飾して合成した各種lf-SWCNTに対して側鎖構造の異なる一連のビニルポリマー誘導体をポリマーラッピングした後に観測された近赤外発光の波長シフトなどを基に、修飾サイト周囲の誘電環境や分子間相互作用の違いを評価した。その結果、未修飾の単層カーボンナノチューブ(SWCNT)とは異なり、lf-SWCNTの修飾サイトでは、ビニルポリマー誘導体の側鎖構造の違いに応じてポリマーラッピングの状態が大きく変化するとともに、修飾分子の置換基構造違いが修飾サイト自体の極性や疎水性を変化させる要因となることを見出した。これにより、それらの物性を反映するパラメータの線形結合を基に、観測される近赤外発光波長シフトとの相関性を明らかにすることに成功した。他にも、SWCNTに生体適合性を付与できるポリマーゲルコーティング技術を適用したlf-SWCNTを対象とした評価を行った。ここでは、修飾分子の構造設計に基づいて発光波長を大きく変化させた修飾サイトが形成されたlf-SWCNTを合成し、界面誘電環境や修飾サイト密度、ナノチューブ長さの違いを基に、近赤外発光の温度応答性を調べた。その結果、温度を変化させた際にlf-SWCNTの近赤外発光特性が、これらの因子に基づいて敏感に変化することを見出し、生体内の局所温度計測などの応用技術開発につながる新たなlf-SWCNTセンサの設計指針を明らかにした。

本年度は、本研究で開発したlf-SWCNT近赤外光バイオセンサが示す特有のセンシング機能のメカニズム検証を目的とした研究に取り組み、修飾サイトで発現する近赤外発光の特異な誘電環境応答性や局所的に形成されるナノ界面環境の違いを明らかにした。これにより、lf-SWCNTの修飾サイトの本質的な理解とセンサのさらなる機能化につながる新たな知見を開拓できたことから、研究の大きな進捗が得られた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

次年度も引き続き、予定している実験計画の遂行とこれまでの研究成果により得られた独自知見をさらに発展させて、lf-SWCNTのさらなる物性解明や機能化、応用展開を行っていく。
