Outline of Research at the Start

人体と親和性の高いソフトロボットが盛んに研究される中,基材となる力学機能高分子の開発に注目が集まっている。機能向上の鍵となる材料の主要な創製プロセスは,(1)高分子の合成,(2)分子配向制御,(3)形状制御(フィルム化や成形加工)であるが,いずれも高度な技術を要することから独自の分野として研究が進んでおり,相乗的な機能設計には至っていない。本研究では,応募者が最近見出した,空間選択的な光重合過程で分子が配向する現象を詳細に調べ解明することで,(1)高分子合成・(2)分子配向・(3)フィルム化を一気通貫に行い,従来手法ではなし得ない高機能マイクロアクチュエータを創製する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

最近応募者は,スリット光を動かしながらモノマーの光重合を行う過程で分子が配向する興味深い現象を見出している。重合過程における分子拡散が鍵とみられるが,詳細には未解明な点が多い。現象解明により光重合と分子配向のメカニズムを解き明かせれば,マイクロアクチュエータ作製のプロセスを融合した新アプローチになり得る。そこで本研究では,機能分子の光重合・分子配向・フィルム化を一段階で相乗的に行い,従来手法ではなし得ない高機能マイクロアクチュエータを創製することを目的としている。光重合過程で同時に分子を配向することで,微細配向パターンを集積化した刺激応答アクチュエータアレイを実現できる。今年度は以下の2点に焦点を絞り,光重合誘起分子配向現象の解明とアクチュエータの設計について研究を遂行した。
(1) 微細配向液晶高分子フィルムの作製:昨年度得た知見に基づき,多彩な微細配向パターンを有する液晶高分子フィルムを作製した。重合条件を最適化することで分子拡散を作り出し,100-300ミクロン程度の分子配向パターンを有する二次元分子配向フィルムを作製することに成功した。
(2) マイクロアクチュエータの挙動評価:モノマーに架橋剤を添加した系で光重合を行うことで配向パターンが誘起された架橋高分子フィルムを作製できた。このフィルムに繰り返し加熱冷却を行うことで,フィルムの表面形状が可逆的に変化するマイクロフィルムアクチュエータとして働くことが明らかとなった。共焦点レーザー顕微鏡観察や光回折を利用した測定により,表面形状や分子配向状態の経時変化を定量的に解析した。

Reason

分子配向パターンが数百ミクロンオーダーで集積した架橋高分子フィルムの作製に成功した。このフィルムが加熱冷却により可逆的な形状変化を引き起こすことを見出した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は以下の2点に焦点を絞り光重合誘起分子配向パターンを有するフィルムアクチュエータの創製について研究を遂行する。
(1) 微細配向液晶高分子フィルムの作製
(2) マイクロアクチュエータの挙動評価
