本研究は、COVID-19の流行で森林を中心とした自然地域（森林・自然公園・都市緑地・農山村など）への人々の訪問行動がどう変化したのかを明らかにするとともに、自然地域への訪問にあたり、感染拡大防止や満足度の観点から利用者がどのような利用ルールを求めているのかを明らかにし、安全で地域社会にとって持続可能な自然地域の利用モデルを構築することである。主軸とする手法はCOVID-19の流行前・流行後のビックデータとアンケート調査データの解析である。ビックデータにCOVID-19の流行前に実施していたアンケート調査と流行後に行うアンケート調査のデータを紐づける点に本研究の学術的な独自性・新規性がある。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study first identified how people's visiting behavior to natural areas changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, we constructed models for the safe and sustainable use of natural areas from the perspectives of preventing the spread of infection and satisfaction. Regarding changes in people's visiting behavior, we used big data to analyze the dynamics of visitor numbers in urban green spaces before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Regarding the construction of models for the use of natural areas, we conducted research mainly related to the introduction of voluntary fees in national parks.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
都市緑地を対象とした研究では、手法および実証の両面で該当学問分野で大きな貢献を果たした。COVID-19の流行後の自然地域の訪問行動の変化に関する知見が少なかったこともあり、論文一編については他の多くの論文に引用されており、Environment/Ecology分野におけるトップ10％論文となっている。利用モデルの構築については、主に国立公園の協力金の導入に関連した研究を行い、全国に導入されている協力金の全体像を把握するとともに、その課題についても整理を行った。中部山岳国立公園や支笏洞爺国立公園では、社会調査や社会実験にも参画して、協力金導入の支援も行った。
