Outline of Research at the Start

抗菌薬が効かない薬剤耐性菌が世界的な問題となるなか、細菌のみに感染し殺菌するウイルス（ファージ）の治療応用への期待が高まっている。しかし、細菌はファージにも容易に耐性化する。従ってファージ耐性の制御が必須課題である。そこで本研究では、細菌がファージ耐性を得る代償として失ってしまう性質に着目し、“ファージに耐性化しても、これまで効かなかった抗菌薬が効くようになる方策（ファージ耐性を得る代わりに薬剤耐性を失う）”を導く。本メカニズムを分子レベルで紐解き、現在本邦で唯一のファージ療法実施施設である本学附属動物病院で臨床的有用性を明らかにし、ファージによる薬剤耐性感染症の革新的治療基盤の創出を目指す。
