Outline of Research at the Start

深海底は地球表面の65%を占める広大な環境で,熱帯雨林に匹敵するほど多くの動物種が生息する.この高い多様性は,水温・酸素量・塩濃度など,水深差にともなう環境条件の差が集団の遺伝的分化をもたらすことで生ずると考えられている(深度分化仮説).本研究課題では,貝類を主な対象に,微小甲殻類・フジツボ類・棘皮動物とあわせて,東北日本親潮流域の水深300-9,500 mにおける底生動物種を採集,その水平・垂直分布を網羅的に解明すると共に,種内の集団間・近縁種間の類縁関係を把握する.また,卵から孵化した幼生の浮遊期間の長さの観点から,深海底における種の分布規定要因と多様性創出機構をさぐる.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

深海底は地球表面の65%を占める広大なハビタットで,熱帯雨林に匹敵する高い動物の多様性を擁する。この多様化には,地形や水平距離に起因する地理的隔離よりも,水深差に伴う環境勾配が重要な役割を果たすとされている(深度分化仮説)。これに対し,研究代表者らは,既往実証研究を大きく上回る網羅的なサンプリングと初期生態解析に基づき,浮遊幼生期を中心とする個体の分散能が地理的隔離と深度分化の相対的重要性を規定する旨の予察的結果を得ている。本課題では,貝類を主な材料とし,微小甲殻類・フジツボ類・棘皮動物とあわせて,東北日本親潮流域の漸深海から超深海帯(水深300-9,500 m)における種の水平・垂直分布を網羅的に解明し,種内集団・近縁種間の系統関係を把握,初期発生・食性・体サイズ・系統等の観点から,深海底における種の分布規定要因と多様性創出機構を探る。
研究期間の初年度である2022年度には,9月から10月にかけて学術研究船白鳳丸による千島海溝・日本海溝の調査を実施した。採集測点は,各海溝の海溝軸を中心とし,深度方向・水平方向ならびに海溝の陸側/海側斜面の観点から選択し含めた。同航海で得られた試料ならびに2021年度までの白鳳丸・新青丸航海で得られた試料について,光学・走査電子顕微鏡等による形態解析と分類,サンガー法による塩基配列決定を行った。また一部の種については,次世代シーケンサによる全ゲノムショットガンシーケンシングに基づく系統解析の対象とした。以上により得られた結果の一部については,原著論文として国際誌への投稿までを完了した。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

ロシアのウクライナ侵攻等に起因する原油価格高騰のため白鳳丸の船表が変更となり、これによって千島・日本海溝航海の日数ならびに測点数が半減となった。航海日数の残りの半分については、新規の航海として2023年度秋期に実施される。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本年9月から10月にかけて、昨年度に引き続き白鳳丸の航海を実施し、日本海溝および千島海溝の試料を採集する。本年は特に岩手県大槌町沖のトランセクトにおいて漸深海帯最下部から深海帯下部までの鉛直方向の試料を採集・比較し、各種の深度分布についてのデータを充実させる。
