Outline of Research at the Start

脳梗塞が起こると、失われた神経細胞や回路を補填するため、生き残ったニューロン同士が新たにシナプスを再構築する。残存したニューロンについては詳細に研究されているのに対して、虚血による神経細胞死を防御する分子機構は殆どわかっていない。私共は最近、健常な脳において神経活動依存的にシナプス形成を促進する転写因子Npas4が、脳梗塞後に一過性に発現し、神経細胞死を抑制することことを見出した。そこで本研究では、脳梗塞の発症初期に発現するNpas4に着目して、虚血による神経細胞死を防ぐ分子メカニズムを解明すると共に、この機構を操作することにより、脳梗塞などに対する革新的な予防・治療法の開発につなげる。
