Outline of Research at the Start

生体内には不要となった細胞、あるいはその分解産物を排除するエフェロサイトーシスと呼ばれるプロセスが存在する。近年、エフェロサイトーシスの持つ役割として、単に不要産物を除去するだけではなく、マクロファージのリプログラミングを行うという作用が報告された。実際、エフェロサイトーシスはアテローム硬化症、大腸炎、肺線維症などの病態において重要な役割を担うことがわかっている。本研究では、いまだ歯周組織における役割が不明であるエフェロサイトーシスの機能を、特に好中球に注目することで明らかとし、さらにはエフェロサイトーシス関連分子を標的とした新規歯周炎治療薬の開発の可能性を見出す。
