Outline of Research at the Start

AIチップが組込みデバイスに搭載される未来では、デバイスは横のつながりで相互に連携しあい、協調的に学習を進めていくようになる。クラウド中心ではない自律分散型の学習はマルチベンダー化を促進し、グローバルコモンズの思想に則したシステムとなる。本研究では、Wireless Ad Hoc Federated Learning (WAFL)を研究開発し、画像、音声領域への適応と充実化を図ると共に、屋内空間での利用やそのセキュリティに関しても研究している。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

横のつながりで自己組織化的に発展する協調学習プラットフォームとして、前年度に基礎を確立したWireless Ad Hoc Federated Learning (WAFL)技術の応用を意識した研究・開発を行った。まず、画像認識分野への応用でVision Transformerを使ったTransfer Learningの学習手法を提案し、人間を上回る性能を出せることがわかった。これについては、IEEE World Forum on the Internet of Thingsで発表し、Best Paper Awardを獲得している。そして、画像による位置推定に関する応用では、GPSの届かない建物や地下空間内のどこにいるかを撮影画像から推定するモデルをWAFLの協調学習シナリオを通じて作り出せることが分かった。さらに、実画像でのモデルのPersonalizationに関する手法も2パターン確立した。この他にもマルチタスク学習でのWAFLの利用についても研究を行い期待する学習が行われることを示し、Peer-to-Peerシナリオの場合に、モデル交換ネットワークを階層化させると学習性能が上がることも明らかにした。高速に精度を向上させる手法(memWAFL)についても研究を行った。これらについては、それぞれ国際会議にて発表済みである。分担者との共同研究では都市のモビリティに関する高密度な人流データの利活用を目的としたデータ分析などを実施した。またスマートカーのシステムセキュリティを高めるためのFederated Learningの応用に関する研究やIndustrial Control SystemのセキュリティにもFederated Learningを応用する研究も行った。

Reason

WAFL研究開発は画像認識分野におよび、その周辺の研究も含めて、実用性を明らかにする段階に達したと考えられる。これは当初目標の改良を達成したものであり順調に進展していると考えられる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今年度は、画像認識の発展形である物体検知へのWAFLの適用について挑戦するほか、音声認識、加速度パターンの認識、そしてサイバーセキュリティでの異常検知など他分野への拡大を目指す。同時に研究で開発したソースコードのオープン化による学術界への貢献と社会実装を目指す。
