Outline of Research at the Start

大気エアロゾルの重要な発生プロセスである新粒子生成(New Particle Formation: NPF)
は、最終的に雲凝結核の濃度を決定付け、地球の気候に影響を与える。本研究では、能登半島先端の観測拠点を舞台に、①大気エアロゾル、およびその前駆ガスを観測し、②エアロゾル動力学、大気化学、大気電磁気学の見地から多角的・包括的な解析を行い、冬季雷に代表される日本海側地域の季節風が織りなす、特有の新粒子生成メカニズムを明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

大気エアロゾルの重要な発生プロセスである新粒子生成(New Particle Formation: NPF)は、最終的に雲凝結核の濃度を決定付け、地球の気候に影響を与える。本研究では、能登半島先端の観測拠点を舞台に、①大気エアロゾル、およびその前駆ガスを観測し、②エアロゾル動力学、大気化学、大気電磁気学の見地から多角的・包括的な解析を行い、冬季雷に代表される日本海側地域の季節風が織りなす、特有の新粒子生成メカニズムを明らかにすることを目的としている。
令和5年度は、昨年度までと同様に定期的に現地で装置の校正を行いつつ、基盤データとなるエアロゾル粒径分布、ガス成分などオンラインで観測できる項目について連続観測を行った。当初の計画どおり、4月と10月にはVOCなどのオフラインで観測する項目の分析頻度を増やし集中的な観測を行った。これと同期する形で、能登半島の風上にあたる中国(北京)、韓国(ソウル)、モンゴル(ウランバートル)などの大気観測サイトでも共通の項目を対象とした観測が海外の共同研究者らによって行われている。能登半島と東アジアのその他の地域におけるNPFの発生状況との比較を行った。また、新たに導入した大気イオン測定器による観測データの蓄積も進み、ターゲットとしていた秋季~冬季の夜間を含む複数の新粒子イベントを捉えることができた。現在、空気塊の輸送経路、大気イオンの寄与などに着目した解析を進めている。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

年明けに起きた能登半島地震によって、珠洲市の観測施設が避難所として利用されるなど、不測の事態によって研究活動も少なからず影響を受けた。しかし、幸い大気イオン測定器を含む主要な装置は損壊を免れ、定期的に現地で復旧作業を進めている。来年度以降も観測は継続できる目途がたち、全体として計画に大きな遅れが生じることはない見通し。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

次年度以降も、引き続き基盤データとなるエアロゾル粒径分布、そのほかの気体成分などオンラインで観測できる項目については可能な限り連続観測を続ける。大気イオン測定器による観測も継続し、新粒子生成イベントの観測事例を増やす。同時にこれまで観測されたイベントに対する大気イオンの寄与について解析を行い、定量的な議論を深める。
