Outline of Research at the Start

亜寒帯北太平洋や南極海など，全海洋の約25%の生物生産が鉄不足による制限を受けている。海洋への鉄の起源は，「海洋中層」と「風成塵」の自然起源が主体と考えられてきたが，近年「人為起源」の鉄にも注目が集まっている。そこで本研究では，新規の漂流型時系列クリーン採水器を設計・開発し，「自然起源」と「人為起源」鉄のそれぞれを，濃度とその安定同位体比並びに鉛（人為起源）やアルミニウム（風成塵）等のトレーサー微量元素の定量を可能にする。本装置を鉄制限海域である西部亜寒帯北太平洋および南極海で運用し，「どこからもたらされた鉄が生物生産にどの程度寄与しているのか？」を定量的に評価する。
