Outline of Research at the Start

固体試料中微量元素分析手法であるレーザーアブレーションICP質量分析(LA-ICP-MS)を活用し、半導体検出器材料であるTlBr中の不純物濃度の分析を行う。また、TlBr中の不純物濃度と電荷輸送特性をはじめとする検出器特性の相関関係について研究する。これらを踏まえて、TlBr半導体の純化工程の最適化や電荷輸送特性の向上などについて検討を行う。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, TlBr starting materials were purified by the zone-refining method, and TlBr crystals were grown by the traveling molten zone method using the purified materials. Impurity analysis of the grown TlBr crystals was conducted using multiple-spot laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (msLA-ICP-MS). Semiconductor detectors were fabricated from the TlBr crystals, and their charge transport properties were evaluated. The TlBr crystals obtained from the upstream side of the zone purification exhibited a low concentration of impurities, superior detector characteristics, and high production yield. In contrast, the TlBr crystals obtained from the downstream side showed accumulation of Sr, Cs, Ba, and Pb, resulting in degraded detector characteristics and low production yield.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

TlBr半導体検出器はガンマ線に高い感度をもつため、次世代の検出器として注目を集めており、日本をはじめ世界中で研究開発が行われている。これまでTlBr検出器の特性と不純物の関係は明らかではなかった。本研究ではTlBr検出器の歩留まり、特性に影響を与える不純物を明らかにすることに成功した。本研究で得られた知見は、TlBr検出器開発および実用化において重要なものであり、今後の研究開発の飛躍的なスピード向上に寄与するものと期待できる。
