Outline of Research at the Start

現在、X線CTやPETなどの医療診断装置ならびに空港の手荷物検査装置にはシンチレータと呼ばれる放射線照射により発光する蛍光体が用いられる。これまで製品化されたシンチレータは一般的な光電子増倍管の感度波長に適合する近紫外・青色領域で発光するものを中心に開発されてきたが、近赤外領域で発光する材料に着目して高いエネルギー分解能を有する検出器開発を行うことを目的とする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

シンチレータは放射線照射時に発光する蛍光材料であり、医療やセキュリティをはじめとする幅広い放射線計測用途に利用されている。本年度では発光中心のスクリーニングを中心に検討を行った。様々な濃度で希土類イオンを添加したハロゲン化物単結晶を合成し、その発光スペクトル・蛍光寿命・エネルギー応答特性を調査した。作製したサンプルはX線照射により目的とする発光波長で発光を呈していたが、発光中心濃度が低い場合は母材由来の発光が支配的となり、目的波長における発光量が低下する傾向を示した。広範な濃度でサンプルを作製し、母材による発光中心の最適濃度傾向を明らかにした。

Reason

1年目に合成検討を終えた二元系ハロゲン化物について添加剤の検討を進めた。様々な濃度で発光中心イオンを添加し、高濃度では濃度消光により発光強度が低下するが目的波長支配的、低濃度では発光強度が増加するがホスト発光支配的になる傾向が見られ、これらの材料系における最適濃度の予測が可能な状態となった。3年目に行う予定の材料検討も着手を始めており、一部は合成検討が完了している。スクリーニングについては当初の計画通り進んでおり、目標性能の達成に向けて検討を続けていく。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

1・2年目はほとんど研究計画に従い進んでおり、次年度の検討にも着手し始めている。次年度は三元系ハロゲン化物の検討を進めていく予定であり、1・2年目の結果を受けて発光中心の体的な添加濃度については予測目途が立っているため、合成検討が中心であり合成条件が最適化できればスクリーニング自体は機械的に進めていく予定である。スクリーニング検討が一通り終われば特性の良好な材料を中心に検出器特性の評価を本格的に進めていく。
