Outline of Research at the Start	文献学的に『八群品』を現存最古の仏典と位置付けることにより、ブッダの哲学の主構造が明らかになった。二千年来不詳であった五位相二様態意識論が緻密な意識分析であり、潜在意識が自覚されないまま顕在意識を支配する機序を記述することが判明した。この五位相観を用いて潜在利己意識の自覚と払拭を不断に継続するニッバーナ（消尽）がブッダ哲学の根幹であり、ニッバーナに専念して生きることが揺るぎない安寧であるとブッダは言う。この長期にわたるニッバーナが他者と世界の全体を慈しむ心を養成する。本研究はこの五位相観による潜在利己心の自覚と払拭（ニッバーナ）の効果を理論的、文献学的、実践的、また医学的見地から究明する。
