Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の出発点は、古代メキシコのピラミッドは「世界の平和を守るため」に建造されたのではないかとの「問い」にある。先行研究は、為政者を埋葬し、彼らの権勢を象徴し、権威と関連した特定の神を崇める目的を指摘する。しかし、研究代表者らの研究により、ピラミッドは死者や特定の権威集団よりも、生者のために存在したことが解明されつつある。古代人が認知した世界（象徴空間）、そして、古代人が日々の暮らしを行う世界（実社会）の両者を守るために建造されたとの仮説を検証する。また、観念の体系化とその変質によりピラミッドが更新されたことを実証する。そのため政治・経済・宗教的拠点であったトラランカレカ遺跡で調査を行う。
