Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は「なぜ雷を伴う豪雨と伴わない豪雨があるのか」という問いに対して、積乱雲内0℃～－10℃の固体降水粒子形成に焦点を絞って、現場ゾンデ観測と数値シミュレーションからその答えを探る。観測では、開発されたばかりの最新の気球搭載型粒子撮像ゾンデと電荷ゾンデによる高頻度連続飛揚というこれまでになかった現場雲物理直接観測を実現し、雲内の降水粒子の雲微物理情報(種別・サイズ・形状・数・落下速度など)とその帯電電荷の鉛直分布を得る。さらにその観測データをもとに、数値シミュレーションにより固体降水の形成・成長・発達過程(時間発展)を再現・検証することで、「豪雨と雷」のメカニズムを明らかにする。
