Outline of Research at the Start

我々は、大腸菌において、バイオフィルム形成能を顕著に向上させる機構を見出した。細菌はバイオフィルムを形成して環境に定着することから、これらの知見が、有用細菌の定着性向上に応用できると考えた。そこで本研究では、腸内細菌を「定着性のモデル」とし、上記で述べた成果、およびバイオフィルムに関するこれまでの研究から学び得たことを応用し、「(1) 細菌に共通して利用可能であること」「(2) 細菌叢バランスを損なわないこと」「(3) 細菌を複合系として定着させられること」を可能とする、細菌の定着性強化技術を開発する。将来的には、有用細菌に利用可能な技術へと発展させることを目指す。
