Outline of Research at the Start

細菌のプラスミドは，種々の遺伝子群を水平伝播し，細菌に新たな生理的機能を付与する．しかし，プラスミド自体の性状（宿主内での安定性や，宿主間の接合伝達頻度，宿主域）を変化・多様化させる要因については解っていない．また，宿主細菌にとって必須でないプラスミドが，細菌群集内で長期にわたって淘汰されずに存続してきた機構についても不明のままである．本研究課題では，研究代表者らが発見したプラスミドを対象に，それらの性状の違いをもたらす要因を明らかにする．並行して，その性状の違いが，細菌群集内におけるプラスミドの動態にどのような違いを生じるのかを検証し，プラスミドと細菌の共存機構の解明を目指す．
