Outline of Research at the Start

油脂を多く含む食品は嗜好性が高い。このような食品の摂取は動物に快感を与え、‘もっと欲しい’という欲求を生み出す。このため、油脂は過剰摂取による肥満、糖尿病、脂肪肝などの原因となることがある。一方で、油脂を多く含む食品を好む人が必ずしも肥満しているわけではない。この違いは、脳の摂食抑制または快感や欲求を生み出す神経系が正常に機能するかどうかによるものと推測されるが詳細は不明であった。
そこで本研究では動物が本来持つ油脂の過食を抑制する神経機構、そしてこの抑制が解除され過食に至ってしまう分子機構の解明に取り組む。
