Outline of Research at the Start

ジュゴンは海草藻場内で移動しながら海草を底質ごと掘り起こして摂餌するため、海草藻場内には食痕すなわちジュゴントレイルと呼ばれる溝状の裸地が形成される。本研究はタイ南部の潮間帯においてジュゴントレイルを利用する動物群集構造を精査、また、トレイル周囲の海草藻場や砂泥地、エイ類の食痕における群集構造との比較やこれらのハビタットにおける捕食リスクパターンを詳しく調べることなどにより、ジュゴンが沿岸域の高い生物多様性や様々な種の資源量維持等にどのように寄与しているのか解明し、さらにその包括的な保全のあり方を探っていく。
