Outline of Research at the Start

樹木の二次木部の組織構造は、木材の材質特性を決める重要な形質である。樹木細胞のミトコンドリアは二次木部形成に深く関わっていると考えられるが、その詳細なしくみについては未解明である。
本研究では、樹木形成層細胞のミトコンドリアの構造、機能、挙動が二次木部形成を制御するしくみを明らかにする。樹木ミトコンドリアに着目した研究アプローチは、細胞や分子、生体エネルギーの観点から広く二次木部形成の現象を明らかにでき、新たな林木育種技術の創造につながる。本研究では、樹木ミトコンドリアの各種顕微鏡観察、ゲノム解析、ATP産生シミュレーションなどを行い、樹木の二次木部形成機能を多面的かつ統合的に明らかにする。
