Outline of Research at the Start

動物の解剖学的な結合関係はなぜか数億年というスケールの進化を通しても変化しにくく、動物門を定義する上での重要な基盤的指標となっている。しかし、ボディプランは動物門と相互に「循環定義」されているという根底的問題を孕んでいるため、その定義は恣意性を伴う慣習的なものでしかなく、ボディプランがなぜ強固に保存されるのか、どの形態要素群が特に保守的なのか、といった問題を解明する上での大きな障壁となっている。本研究はこの問題に対し、ボディプランが形成される発生段階の連続的な保存性をもとに循環定義を解消すし、ボディプラン及び動物門の新しい定義を提案するのが目標である。
