Outline of Research at the Start

動物体表に見られる模様パターンの多様性は、かたちやサイズなど他の形質とは大きく異なる様相をもちます。近縁な動物の間でも互いの体表模様がまったく別物であることは珍しくありません。その一方で、赤の他人と言えるほど遠縁で体型やサイズもかけ離れた動物同士が驚くほど似通った模様を共有しているという「他人の空似」のような現象も頻繁に観察されます。こうした模様の多様性はどのように生まれ、形づくられてきたのでしょうか。本研究課題では、多彩な模様パターンを生み出してきた魚類を対象として、「他人の空似」のような模様の多様性がどのように形成されてきたのか、また、形成され得るのか、包括的な解明を目指します。
