本研究は，社会生態系に持続可能性の変革をもたらすレバレッジ（システムに内在する梃）に着目し，豊かな生態系サービス（Ecosystem Services, ES）を提供する望ましい里海を創生するために求められる理論と方法とはなにかを明らかにし，里海創生の学問的発展と実践に寄与するものである．関係価値とネットワーク・ガバナンスに着目した本研究はまた，総務省が推進する関係人口を理論的・実証的に整理する契機，そして環境ガバナンス一般に大きな示唆を与えうる．
