Outline of Research at the Start |

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I started to study the Kyoto School of Philosophy, in particular Nishida Kitaro: on the one hand, I learned about the social/cultural/philosophical background of the School; on the other hand, I deepened the first Nishida, clarifying his starting point and his initial interest. I started to study Japanese by myself. Also, I tried to promote women philosophers’ dissemination, presenting my previous research at the Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture and getting in touch with some female Japanese professors (especially Sato Maki and Arisaka Yoko, with whom we are trying to organize some events in late 2024 or early 2025).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I had two trips in February, for meeting some scholars and getting some feedback on my research: I was in Tokyo from the 4th to the 7th, and I met Tsuyoshi Nakayama, who is the president of the Jaspers Society of Japan; I was in Kyoto from the 23rd to the 25th, where I met Esben Petersen, Morten Jelby and Ohashi Ryosuke. I joined the events organized at the Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture. They were useful to learn more about Japanese philosophy and get some feedback on my research. I gave a lecture at the workshop Expression in the (un)making on the 7th of March at the Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture. I wrote an article about this lecture, it is currently under review.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I will keep studying Nishida Kitaro and Japanese. I would like to deepen also other philosophers of the Kyoto School of Philosophy, like Nishitani Keiji, in order to see if they can contribute somehow to my paradigm on freedom and my actual research. I will disseminate the results of my research. I’m going to give two lectures at the World Congress of Philosophy in Rome: the first lecture will be about Karl Jaspers’ legacy to Jeanne Hersch, the second lecture will be an introduction to the role of distinction in Jeanne Hersch and early Nishida Kitaro. I have already planned a conference October 2024: I’m organizing it together with the Italian Karl Jaspers Society and the Jaspers Society of Japan, to investigate the reception of Karl Jaspers’ tradition in Japanese philosophy.
