Outline of Research at the Start

2018年、写真家でコレクターのアーサー・トレス氏が50 年以上にわたり収集した約1400点の書籍をペンシルヴェニア大学附属図書館に寄贈した。トレス氏のコレクションは江戸時代の版本を中心とし、明治時代に刊行された文芸書の初版本や着物の図案集、紙や布の見本帖などもあり、その内容はバラエティに富んでいる。日本国内には存在しない稀覯本も数多く含まれる。本研究では、英語と日本語による目録化に加え、書誌学的知識や諸般の補足説明を加えたこれまでになかった解題作成を行うことで、英語圏の人々にも書籍の内容を容易に知ることを可能にし、出版のみならず日本文化の諸相の理解を促すことを最終目標とする。
