Outline of Research at the Start

およそ6,000年前の縄文時代は温暖であったとされている(ヒプシサーマル)。しかし気候モデルで反対に寒冷だったとされている。現在より数℃温暖だったという前提のもとで縄文時代は近未来の気候アナログとして捉えられ、土地利用などについて議論が行われている。しかし気候モデルでは当時数℃寒かったとされ、完新世の気温復元不一致問題とよばれている。本研究では、この問題に取り組む。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

オーストラリア側研究者であるシドニー大学のWebster教授が来日したのを機に、グレートバリアリーフと対になる場所に位置する南西諸島について、研究の計画立案を行った。またWebster教授との喜界島への現地調査のも含め、複数回のサンプリングと分析を行った。特に地下水の動態を探ることで気候変動との関係性を論じることができると考えて分析を実施し、成果を国際誌に発表しプレスリリースを行うとともに、地元紙にも掲載された。オーストラリアグレートバリアリーフの試料について、シドニー大学に保管されているものを選択し、シドニー大学側のスタッフの協力も得ながら完新世の分析に供することができる試料を選別し、それらを東大に移送した。年度後半にはWebster教授の共同研究者でもあり、サンゴ骨格を使った子気候復元研究の第一人者でもあるウーロンゴン大学のMcGregor教授や、オーストラリア国立大学のAbram教授と複数回の面談を行い、サンゴ骨格を使った化学分析手法の改良などについて議論を行うとともに、水温復元や塩分復元の再現性などについての意見交換を実施した。さらに、完新世の直前の最終氷期に氷河の存在が確認されているオーストラリアのグレートディバイデング山脈の氷河堆積物や湖の過去の水深変化についての観察等を行い、低緯度および海面付近の気温変化とより高緯度の高度の高い地点での気候変化などについて現地の研究者と議論を行った。またシドニー大学を訪問し、分析試料の測定計画について議論を行うことができた。

当初予定していたよりも多くの複数回の議論を対面で実施したことや、オーストラリアに渡航して議論をした際に、より具体的に研究計画について検討を行うことができたため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

更なる分析の検討を行うため、のべ4週間以上のオーストラリアへの渡航を計画している。特に氷期から間氷期つまり更新世の終わりから完新世への移行期を含んだ時期の気候感度を理解するために、氷床コアや気候モデルの研究者を含む多くの研究者との議論を行うことを計画している。さらに、それらの情報を他のメンバーとも共有すべく、オンラインでの検討会を計画していく。
