Outline of Research at the Start

本事業では、スタンフォード大学SPICE（国際・多文化間教育プログラム）と東京大学教
育学研究科学校教育高度化・効果検証センター（CASEER）との協働によって、国際平和につ
ながる多文化共生を実現するための国際理解教育の研究と開発に取り組む。両機関がこれま
で蓄積してきた多文化理解と探究的・協働的学習に関する教育コンテンツとカリキュラム、
および教育の実践と効果検証の実績を融合・発展させ、グローバル・シティズンシップを涵
養する教育を構築するための基盤形成を図る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

研究事業初年度となる2023年度には主に以下の5つの活動を行った。
①アメリカ高等教育における多文化主義の歴史に関する研究：本事業の連携先大学であるスタンフォード大学、およびカリフォルニア大学バークレー校は、いずれも西洋文明カリキュラムと多文化主義カリキュラムのどちらをより重視するかに関して全米の議論の舞台となった。本研究の基盤を構築するために、その歴史に関する解明に取り組んだ。
②アメリカ高等教育における多様性・平等性・包摂性（DEI）の現状と課題に関する研究：アメリカの大学では2020年代に入ってDEIに関する取組が急速に発展した。他方、その反動として政治的右派からはDEIに関する教育を制限しようとする動きも強まっている。この動向について研究を行った。
③アメリカの多文化主義カリキュラムの現状に関する研究：上記の状況の中でアメリカの高等教育において多文化主義カリキュラムがどのように展開されているのかについて、スタンフォード大学を事例として検討を行った。
④スタンフォード大学における集中講義の開講と研究ネットワークの構築：DEIの推進とその課題、および高等教育のイノベーションをテーマとして、スタンフォード大学において2度にわたる集中講義を開講し、東大教育学研究科の大学院生を含めた、両大学の教職員間の議論の場を形成した。スタンフォード大学内外の多様な関係者と有意義な議論の場を形成し、今後の本研究の推進に関わるネットワークを形成した。
⑤スタンフォード大学SPICEと東京大学CASEERのレクチャーシリーズの開催：2021年度から開催しているレクチャーシリーズを月1回の頻度で継続し、両組織間の研究交流の促進を図った。

Reason

当初の研究計画に沿った活動を推進すると同時に、本研究のテーマに関わる最新動向について研究を行うことができた。事業開始から半年間で以下の5つの研究活動を展開できたことは大きな成果であった。
①アメリカ高等教育における多文化主義の歴史に関する研究
②アメリカ高等教育における多様性・平等性・包摂性（DEI）の現状と課題に関する研究
③アメリカの多文化主義カリキュラムの現状に関する研究
④スタンフォード大学における集中講義の開講（2回）と研究ネットワークの構築
⑤スタンフォード大学SPICEと東京大学CASEERのレクチャーシリーズの開催

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2024年度以降も上記5つの研究テーマと活動を主軸としながら研究活動を進めていく。
2024年度は後半にスタンフォード大学での現地調査を計画している。
