Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、起源推定が可能である水銀輸送に焦点を当て、（1）輸送元と輸送経路及び輸送先を特定し、海鳥類による水銀輸送の実態を解明して影響評価を行うとともに、（2）海鳥類をモデル生物として、大気循環や海流に起因する大陸間輸送による水銀の海洋への影響について、水銀拡散モデルを太平洋全域で構築することで陸上の生態系への影響も検出する手法を開発することを目的としている。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2024年7月に北西太平洋三陸沖における船上調査によって海洋生物（シマガツオやクロタチカマスなどの魚類やスジイカやアカイカなどの頭足類）サンプルを取得した．繁殖地ないでの野外調査では、2024年4月から7月にかけて米国アラスカ州ミドルトン島において、海鳥類の行動生態調査および海洋汚染暴露状況について調査を行った。これは、カナダのMcGill大学および米国の海鳥保全研究所（Institute for Seabird Research and Monitoring Conservatio）との国際共同研究として実施した。育雛期のヒメウ成鳥20個体にGPS/深度/加速度ロガーを装着し、そのうち19個体（オス9個体、メス10個体）から3から7日後にロガーを回収した。これらの19個体とそのほか11個体（計30個体）から血液、羽（胸、背中、首）を採集した。また、捕獲時もしくは巣において親鳥もしくは雛の吐き戻しがあった場合、適宜採集した (n = 55)。同様にして、ミツユビカモメ29個体からGPS/深度/加速度ロガーのデータを取得し、採血、羽（後頭、胸、背中）の採集を行った。ミツユビカモメの胸と背中の羽の採集は、ロガー装着作業の途中から加わったため、ロガー装着個体以外の6個体からもサンプリングを行った。29個体のうち、5個体にはビデオロガーを同時に装着し4個体からビデオロガーのデータを得た。またヒメウ、ミツユビカモメ20個体ずつにジオロケーターを装着しており、2025年に回収して越冬期の分布と水銀暴露の関係についても調べる。調査後は化学分析を進めており、水銀濃度測定を実施した。

当初の予定通り、野外調査および船上調査を実施して試料採取、および化学分析を実施することができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

来年度は船上調査およびアラスカ州での野外調査を実施するとともに、化学分析をさらに進めていく。海外共同研究協力者と同位体比分析を実施するなど、国内外での野外調査や科学分析機会を増やし、研究を推進する。
