In this research project, we have developed various data access technologies for supporting collaborative works of multiple users who construct a mobile ad hoc network such as rescue workers at a disaster site. In particular, we have proposed a number of techniques for efficiently processing top-k queries (retrieving k data items with the highest scores) and k-nearest neighbor queries (finding k users or data items closest to the query specified position).
The research achievements have been published in 8 journals, 33 conferences, and 1 book, including a paper published in a top-ranked journal in the mobile computing field.
The techniques proposed in this project have a possibility to significantly improve information sharing in situations without network infrastructure such as disaster situations, and thus, have a big social impact.
