Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Fish sampling and stomach contents analysis were conducted in order to examine predator-prey interactions of the major components of animal communities in coastal ecosystems in Japan. In the Seto Inland Sea and Hokkaido areas, which were selected as main sites for intensive survey, predatory fish biomass increased in nighttime in all seasons. The increase in predation risk of juvenile and small-sized fish during nighttime was commonly observed at almost all sampling sites and seasons. The structures of wood-web in coastal ecosystem were suggested to change within small spatial and temporal scales than expected.
