Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Three kinds of survey were conducted in this study. A survey of nursing care for elderly patients and patients with dementia at acute hospitals, and a survey of attitude toward elderly people among undergraduate nursing students were conducted in Japan, Thailand, and Sweden. In addition, a survey on caring condition for family caregivers taking care of the elderly was conducted in Japan and Thailand. The results show that nurses in Thailand give more consideration to their care for patients with dementia than do those in Japan. As for the nursing students’ survey, students having the most positive and negative attitudes toward elderly people were Thai students and students having the least positive and negative attitudes were Japanese students. The results for the survey of family caregivers suggest that family caregivers in Thailand have a more stable situation than those in Japan.
