Outline of Final Research Achievements |
As an attempt to support visually impaired students in learning science, we develop a system using haptic device with which they can overcome their handicap such that it is quite difficult to image mathematical objects and phenomena in nature. The haptic device makes it possible to perceive virtual realities built in PC realistically through the haptic sense. We have constructed mainly the programs by which visually impaired students can have virtual experience of the scientific things such as dynamical phenomena and geometrical 3D objects with the haptic device, and finally built the supporting system which enables them to have mental images of these things so that they can promote their understanding of science.
