Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Autophagy is a cell survival system under starvation or stress. Cancer cells utilize this system to acquire therapy-resistance and adjust hypoxic tumor microenvironment. I found that autophagy is induced when human pancreatic cancer cells are treated with apoptosis-inducing TRAIL. Additionally, their susceptibility to TRAIL is significantly augmented by the treatment with RNA interference or molecular-targeted drugs to inhibit autophagy.
