Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In Japanese literature history, a haikai school called Danrin Haikai was the mainstream of the haikai world for over ten years around the Enpo era (1673~1681) but then instantly vanished with the appearance of Matsuo Basho (1644~1694). However, at the height of its power, the provincial Danrin Haikai people had formed a culture zone by means of a distribution network, transmitting cultural information to the urban areas. This research investigates this fact from a viewpoint of Ukiyozoushi (compilation of stories from various regions in Japan), written by Ihara Saikaku(1642~1693) who played an active role as master of Danrin Haikai in Osaka, the center of economic prosperity at that time.
