Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project has explored literary representations of body modification in terms of the posthuman, and found that contemporary texts on this topic depict the subversive potential of the practice of challenging fixed, binary categories such as gender and race. On the other hand, this project has posited that these texts acutely sense and depict not only liberatory effects but also the conflicts and difficulties that people simultaneously face from the omnipresence of physical transformation, thus leading to ambivalent conclusions.
