Through the integration of theory and practice, I have developed reflective portfolios in order to enhance EFL teacher trainees’ professional competence and autonomy. The Japanese government, which announced the English Education Reform Plan Corresponding to Globalization in 2013, expects EFL teachers to contribute to the promotion of a new coherent English teaching system throughout primary and secondary education. Towards 2020, when the new Course of Study will be established, teacher education programs will also be improved in light of each stage of teacher development. The present study has been carried out, taking into account this innovation in pre- and in-service teacher education in Japan.I have introduced my research results in a variety of conferences inside and outside Japan and publish papers and books on my research interests.
