Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study addressed the professional development of writing center tutors of English writing at Japanese universities. Findings based on qualitative data from six writing centers reveal that tutors' professional development can be effectively explained through Activity Theory (Engestrom, 1999, 2001). Furthermore, longitudinal analyses of data from a selected number of tutors over several years indicate that being a tutor has different implications among individuals and that professional tutor development is related to tutors' educational experiences in and outside writing centers and their psychological changes based on those experiences.
