Among various individual factors that are claimed to influence learning of L2, the role of phonological memory has gained attention as a contributing factor to L2 learning. Although a number of studies have investigated the relationship between phonological memory and L2 acquisition, only a few studies examined the musical aspects of phonological memory. Thus, this study was conducted in order to investigate how much phonological memory for both verbal and non-verbal (musical) information contributes to L2 oral skills (pronunciation and listening skills). 180 Japanese university students participated in this study by engaging in phonological memory tests and L2 (English) pronunciation and listening tests. The results of the correlation and regression analyses indicated that phonological memory capacity had significant positive effects on L2 oral skills.
