Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to examine how churches and other social factors affect the patriotism of African Americans, I have conducted qualitative research employing an in-depth interview method. Research participants are African American Christians in Texas who are at least 30 years old and have at least a four-year university degree. Because the data collection is currently continuing with a goal of reaching roughly 50 participants, this is an interim report on the data collection up to March 31, 2015. I completed interviews with 27 participants (10 men and 17 women) as of March 31. A majority appear to have a strong love for America, while a minority have relatively weak love for America. The characteristics of their patriotism and the effects of social factors are explored. The data collection will end in August, 2015.
