The present study investigated the effects of social and personality factors on the pupils' positive class participation in elementary school and its' developmental changes. In study 1, we interviewed the primary teachers and students in a teacher training course about the determinants of the pupils' positive class participation in elementary school. Study 2 and 3 examined the effects of Big Five personality traits, self-consciousness, subjective adjustment to the classroom and school life and friendship in class on the pupils' positive class participation. The results showed that there were common effects and characteristic effects.
