Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cultured alveolar epithelial cell lines, RLE-6TN cells and A549 cells. Anticancer drugs such as bleomycin and methotrexate also induced EMT-like phenotypical changes in these cell lines. In addition, the involvement of TGF-β1 pathway in the EMT induced by these drugs was suggested. These findings would be helpful for the development of a novel strategy to predict the lung toxicity of drug candidates.
