Outline of Final Research Achievements

Pancreatic carcinomas is considered to be derived from either PanIN or IPMN. Especially, PanIN-3 is an important lesion, however; there may be de novo cancer present. Regarding the histologic type of pancreatic carcinoma, gastric type IPMN usually progressed to ordinary adenocarcinoma, whereas intestinal type IPMN mainly showed mucinous (colloid) carcinoma. When pancreatic cancer cells invaded into normal pancreas, pancreatic islets tended to be preserved to the end. Using Tissue Microarray method, pancreatic cancer cells could reveal focal positivity for HNF-1 beta, chromogranin A, p63 or BCL-10. These immunohistochemical results may have influence with histological variation of pancreatic cancer.
