Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Human gastrointestinal tumor has cancer stem cell (CSC) population, which possess self-renewing potential. The present study revealed the stemness in the EpCAM-high and CD44-positive human colorectal cancer cells. Only these cells efficiently form sphere in vitro. Soluble factors including exosomes may play an important role in the interaction between colorectal CSCs and the cells forming microenvironment. The present study suggested that these interactions might possibly induce of stemness in non-CSCs.
